    Halloween Snack Board

What are Snack, Charcuterie, or Grazing Boards?

Snack, Charcuterie, or Grazing Boards are a great way to combine dips, cheese, cold meats, crackers, bread, fresh fruit, veggies, and sweet treats. They are normally served on a wooden board and are great as an appetizer or party snack.

Our boards, such as this Halloween Platter or our Festive snack Board, are vegan and packed full of fresh fruit, nuts, homemade dips, and other healthy ingredients.

Our Halloween "Char Boo Terie Board" is the perfect dish to bring to your Halloween party or gathering. If you are looking for vegan Halloween appetizers or Halloween snacks, this will be perfect for you.

At home, this Halloween Snack Board has become a classic. Every year, we prepare a large snack board to bring to our Halloween gathering. People love to be able to pick their favorite snacks and it makes for a wonderful finger-food platter.

    Our Halloween Snack Board is:

    • Vegan
    • Festive
    • Colorful
    • Easy to customize
    • An appetizer or snack
    • Easy to prepare
    • Perfect for 6-8 people

    Halloween Board Components

    Dips

The best part of a grazing board is the dips you serve to combine with the rest of the ingredients. On our Halloween Snack Board, the dips are the centerpiece of this healthy snack, which helps the rest of the board come together in a beautiful and tasty way. All our dips are vegan and gluten-free.

    Sun-Dried Tomato Paté

Sun-Dried Tomato Pâté is a simple spread made from rehydrated sun-dried tomatoes, roasted red pepper, garlic, olive oil, sweet paprika, smoked paprika, and almonds. This is a classic dip from Spain, but we make it using only plant-based ingredients, as the original recipe contains meat. It's a savory spread that brings those spooky colors to your board while adding a unique dip idea that your guests haven't tried before!

    Hummus

Hummus is one of the easiest and yummiest dips to make at home. It is really popular, and most people will love it. For the Halloween board, we thought that this Roasted Pumpkin Hummus would be the best option. Other great options for this board would be roasted carrots hummus, this colorful beetroot hummus, or our roasted red pepper hummus. Choose to make as many different hummus as you like.

    Olive Tapenade

Black or mixed olive tapenade is a great dip to serve with your Halloween Board. We made this Olive Tapenade from Loving It Vegan, and it was delicious. It is easy to prepare, but you can always buy an already-made tapenade.

    Chutneys, Nut Butter, or Marmalade

To add some sweetness to your snack board, we love adding chutneys or marmalades. For the spooky evening, red, purple, or black marmalades or chutneys are the best choices. You can get cherry, blackberry, or strawberry marmalades and tomato chutney.

Other dips you may want to consider for your Halloween grazing board are:

    • Vegan Basil Pesto
    • Red Pesto
    • Brazil Nut Butter
    • Cashew Butter
    • Baba Ganoush
    • Vegan Cream Cheese
    • Peanut Butter

    Fresh Fruits and Fresh Veggies

Pack your board with seasonal fruit and veggies. For Halloween, you can get cherry tomatoes, red peppers, pomegranates, carrots, celery sticks, grapes, blackberries, blueberries, raspberries, tangerines (you can decorate them like small pumpkins using a small celery stick), and apple slices. Dark fruit such as grapes, blueberries, or dates, are a great addition to the Halloween colors.

    Dried Fruits and Nuts

Dried fruits and nuts make for a healthy snack. For Halloween, you can get many dried fruits that will bring the right colors to your healthy snack board: mango, apricots, raisins, plums, dates, or cranberries.

For nuts, we like adding a mixture of macadamia nuts, cashews, almonds, walnuts, and pecan. You can add more or fewer nuts, just use what you already have or your favorite ones.

Don't forget to add some of your favorite olives, they make a great addition to your snack boards. We love adding black olives to this spooky board.

    Crackers

The best platters are served with a wide variety of crackers, or salty snacks. You'll need a few different types of crackers to make your board just perfect. Our favorite ones for this platter are mini pretzels or pretzel sticks. Halloween is quite close to the Christmas season, so you can already buy some festive crackers in your local supermarkets that can be used for your Halloween appetizer.

    Halloween Treats

You can include some treats using small bowls. For this Halloween fruit board, we added some biscuits and dark chocolate. You can add some Halloween cookies, vegan gummy worms, candy eyeballs, chocolate chips, and other sweets of your choice.

    Halloween Decor

This is a Halloween board, so you will need some spooky elements. You don't need to buy much stuff, simply get a bit creative, and you can make small things at no cost.

For our board, we used some small plastic spiders that our son Luca already had around; we carved a red pepper, added some biscuits that we bought for Halloween, and decorated some tangerines to make them look like small pumpkins. You can add more stuff to these simple ideas.

You can serve this spooky board on top of a spider web, to make it more festive, add some banana ghosts, a skeleton hand, black olives spiders, oreo spiders, and other spooky bits.

    Instructions

    • Choose a big enough surface to start building your board.
    • Prepare the dips you want to include on the board. We recommend preparing the dips the day before.
    • Assemble the snack board. Lay out everything you want to include so you can see what you have.
    • Place the biggest things first. You'll need some pinch bowls or serving bowls for the dips. Place them so you know how much space is left. Then, if you have any big items make sure you add them first.

    • Lastly, add the decoration to make the spookiest grazing board!

How to make the perfect Festive Halloween Snack Board

    1. Plan ahead. First of all, if you are planning on making a nice snack board or grazing board, you need to plan ahead as you may need to go to different supermarkets in order to get everything you need. Think about how many people you are making the board for and which surface you will use. We recommend using a large platter or large cutting board. Planning ahead will help you to use things you already have at home, such as olives, crackers, and ingredients to make your dips, fruit, veggies, etc.
    2. We strongly recommend that you make the dips the day before so that the day you want to serve and enjoy the Halloween snacks, you can build your grazing board in less time.
    3. Once you have the dips made, the grazing board you will use, and all the ingredients, it is time to start assembling the snack board. Lay out everything you want to include so you can see what you have. It is easy to forget something you want to include!
    4. There is no wrong way to place the different dips and ingredients, but we recommend you place the larger items first. You'll need some pinch bowls or serving bowls for the dips. Place them so you know how much space is left. Then, if you have any big items, make sure you add them first.
    5. Keep adding the rest of the ingredients in small piles. Make sure you are mixing colors, textures, and tastes.
    6. Lastly, add the decoration to make the spookiest grazing board!

Tips to Make a Festive Halloween Charcuterie Board

    • When preparing your Halloween snacks, save some extra crackers and bread. Crackers are normally the first items on the board that will go. Have some extra crackers and bread so people can keep enjoying the dips and chutneys.
    • Plan ahead. Make the dips the day before and keep them in the fridge using an air-tight container. Buy a large assortment of crackers, olives, and dried and fresh fruits to make a colorful and complete board.
    • To make the grazing board fancier, serve different types of your favorite vegan cheese and vegan cold "meat" as well. We want to keep the board simple and on a budget but you can always add more items to the platter.
    • Use seasonal ingredients as they will be easier to find and always taste better.
    • If you want to save time, use store-bought dips. Nothing tastes better like homemade dips but if you are in a rush, or want to make something really quick without making a mess, just use good quality store-bought dips such as hummus, olive tapenade, baba ganoush, or other spreads. You can also make the dips the day before you prepare the board.
    • Choose a big enough board or platter. For this recipe, we use the Ikea chopping board that measures 53x46 cm.

    FAQ

What is the difference between snack, grazing, and charcuterie board?

The truth is, we use all these names to refer to our Halloween board. It does not contain meat, as it is vegan, but you could still call it a charcuterie board as you could add some vegan cold meats and vegan cheese. Grazing boards are normally boards that contain cold meats, cheese, and other ingredients such as fruit, veggies, and nuts. When it comes to snack boards, it is up to you how you fill them up!

How can I make this Halloween snack gluten-free?

Snack boards are great for many reasons, but one of them is that you can personalize them as much as you want. You can get gluten-free crackers to make a delicious gluten-free Halloween snack.

How many people does this board serve?

This board serves around 6 to 8 adults.
